The Guild Standard

We don't employ inspectors. We don't sell memberships to anyone who applies. We analyse publicly available data and invite people who have already earned the right to be here.

GuildSelect is a curated directory — not a regulatory body.

We don't hold trade licences, run background checks, or personally verify workmanship. What we do is analyse publicly available data on thousands of UK trade businesses and invite the ones that have demonstrably earned their reputation over time.

Think of it as doing the Google research for you — and presenting the results beautifully. Every member of GuildSelect was individually invited; not one was automatically included or purchased their way in.

What qualifies a business for GuildSelect

⭐

Proven reputation

4.6 stars or above on Google

Not just "good" — demonstrably great. A 4.6 average across genuine customer reviews reflects years of consistent quality, handled professionally even when jobs didn't go perfectly.

💬

Meaningful review volume

30 or more verified Google reviews

Star ratings without volume are easy to manufacture. 30 or more independent reviews represents a real, sustained body of customer experience — not a handful of friends and family.

📅

Established and trading

In business for 3 or more years

An established trading history is one of the strongest signals of a legitimate, reliable business. Skilled professionals who consistently do excellent work stay in business. The ones who don't, don't.

Why we invite — not accept applications

Most high-quality independent tradespeople are too busy running their business to promote themselves online. The best carpenter in your area probably has a waiting list, not a marketing department.

GuildSelect finds them using their reputation — which already exists publicly in their Google reviews — and presents them properly on their behalf. They don't need to apply because we approach them.

This makes GuildSelect categorically different from directories where any business can pay to appear: you know that every person shown here was sought out, not bought in.

What the Guild Standard means — and what it doesn't

Meeting the Guild Standard means a business has a strong, publicly verifiable track record. It does not mean:

  • close We have inspected their work in person
  • close We have verified their trade qualifications or certifications
  • close We have conducted a criminal record check
  • close We endorse or guarantee any specific job or outcome
For specialist regulated trades — gas safety (Gas Safe Register), electrical work (NICEIC or NAPIT), structural work (RICS) — always verify the relevant certification directly with the trade body before instructing any work.

Received an invitation? Here's what it means.

If you received a GuildSelect invitation, your business already meets all three criteria above. We analysed your public data before reaching out — there's nothing more you need to prove and nothing more you need to provide.

Questions about the Guild Standard

My business has fewer than 30 reviews. Can I appear on GuildSelect?

GuildSelect is invitation-only, and the three Guild Standard criteria are the minimum for an invitation. Businesses that don't yet meet the criteria are not currently eligible. Build your review count on Google and you may qualify for a future invitation cycle.

My rating has dropped slightly below 4.6. What happens to my profile?

We check ratings quarterly. If your rating falls below 4.6 for a sustained period, we'll contact you before making any change to your profile. We don't remove members without warning or discussion.

Can I pay to be included even if I don't meet the standard?

No. Membership fees support the editorial team and the platform — they don't purchase inclusion. Every GuildSelect member met the Guild Standard before they received an invitation.

Who decides the thresholds?

We do, and we publish them here so there are no surprises. Any change to the criteria will be announced at least 30 days in advance and will not retroactively affect members who qualified under previous thresholds.
